The Vatican is taking part on the Venice International Film Festival, the oldest international film festival in the world, created in 1932. Since 2000, the Roman Curia delivers a cinematographic reward, during this event, the called “Roberto Bresson Prize” destined to filmmakers who made a significant work towards the discovery of the spiritual sense of the life.

In 2013, the prize was delivered in the presence of Cardinal Claudio-Maria Celli to the Israeli film director Amos Gitai, who made the film Ana Arabia. It’s about a small community of outcasts, Jews and Arabs, who live together in a forgotten territory between Jaffa and Bat Yam, in Israel.

This year, the prize will be delivered to the Italian film director, actor and screenwriter Carlo Verdone. The Venice International Film Festival begins today and runs until September 6th.
