The inspiration of the Bible.

The inspiration of the Bible.

The Sacred Scripture, or the Bible, occupies in the Church a central place, and plays an essential role, the one of spiritually nourishing the faithful .

The Second Vatican Council affirmed in the  Dogmatic Constitution Dei Verbum, and the Catechism of the Church follows this doctrine, that

the Church has always venerated the Scriptures as she venerates the Lord’s Body. She never ceases to present to the faithful the bread of life, taken from the one table of God’s Word and Christ’s Body. Catechism of the Catholic Church, 103.

The same Dei Verbum states that

Sacred theology rests on the written word of God, together with sacred tradition, as its primary and perpetual foundation. Dei Verbum, 24

There is even in the Church the specific call of those who, in monasteries and cloisters, dedicate themselves exclusively to the meditation of the Sacred Scripture.

This greatness of the Bible in the Church, however, is not the fruit of a mere attribution of value that could have come from the ecclesiastical authorities. Instead, it derives from the objective nature of the Bible itself, which the Magisterium of the Church recognizes and protects.

What nature is this? It is the inspiration. Knowing this dogma of faith can really strengthen our spiritual life.
