Today, May 6, 2017, brothers and sisters of Sion celebrated the 133rd anniversary of the death of Fr. Alphonse Ratisbonne (one of the founders of the Congregation). The Superior General of the Brothers of Sion Fr. Donizete Ribeiro, NDS celebrated the Eucharist in the chapel of the community of Ein Karem (Jerusalem), where Fr Alphonse lived and, at his request, was buried.
The Mass was celebrated at 10:30 am. After the reading of the Gospel, Br. Elio Passeto, NDS commented on the special call of Fr. Alphonse and his conviction, courage and daring willingness to carry forward the project of Sion: “He built everything here, he sacrificed himself and especially built our three houses: Ecce Homo, St. John on the Mount (Ein Karem) and St. Peter of Sion (Ratisbonne). It would not be possible, at that moment, to live here without his presence.”
The celebration of the Mass was followed by a special lunch involving brothers, sisters, novices and volunteers.
